Here’s the short answer first though. How long after spaying can I bathe my dog? Most vets recommend that you don’t bathe your dog for 10 to 14 days after spay surgery (or neutering surgery). This also includes getting any water on your dog’s wounds when swimming, paddling, or even rainwater.

To do this, just use a wet wipe or a wet washcloth and mild dog shampoo. Do not give your dog a bath while she is healing until your veterinarian says it's okay to do do so, usually after about 14 days post-surgery.

I have an almost 7 month old Persian that got spayed exactly 3 weeks ago. I have pretty severe cat allergies, but love cats, and did a ton of research before adopting a cat -- finding that it would be best to get a cat that needed baths anyway. Now, the past few days my allergies have been flaring up a bit.

Any bathing should be done prior to surgery and any water activities will need to be postponed for two weeks. Outdoor dogs may need to be kept indoors to avoid laying in wet grass or playing in a swimming pool. In addition to staying dry, dogs must not be allowed to lick, scratch or disturb the incision area.
