Those who are looking for an answer to the question «Abs acetone bath how long?» often ask the following questions:

❔ How long for acetone vapor bath?

It can hold temperature from 56 to 100°C/133 to 212F quite a long time. So the principle is: Pour acetone in the inner pot ; Put model in the inner pot above acetone level ; Pour boiling water in the outer pot ; Wait a while. It should not take more than one minute ; Take the model out. Acetone will only work with ABS or PET items.

❔ Acetone dry ice bath?

Both flasks are submerged in a dry ice/acetone cooling bath (−78 °C) the temperature of which is being monitored by a thermocouple (the wire on the left). A cooling bath , in laboratory chemistry practice, is a liquid mixture which is used to maintain low temperatures, typically between 13 °C and −196 °C.

❔ How long does a dry ice acetone bath last?

In order to maintain temperatures above −77 °C, a solvent with a freezing point above −77 °C must be used. When dry ice is added to acetonitrile, the bath will begin cooling. Once the temperature reaches −41 °C, the acetonitrile will freeze. Therefore, dry ice must be added slowly to avoid freezing the entire mixture.

There have been experiments using acetone vapor at room temperature, but they can take up to 40 minutes to smooth a part. Using a boiling acetone vapor process can smooth a part in less than 10 seconds! Borrowing a technique from a moonshiner I’d met, I used a water bath to keep the acetone at a steady 140°F.

I personally set the timer to 15 minute intervals for finely-detailed objects, and 30 for large solid objects. Depending on how rough the surfaces of the object are, and how polished you want the object to be, the process can take from around 15 minutes to several hours.

After about 30 minutes, the surface of the print should have developed a more solid ‘skin’ that is impervious to dust. At this point, you may speed up the removal of residual acetone by pointing a fan on your print. Depending on the size and complexity of your print, the whole process of removal of acetone can take several hours to a few days.

"Of couse you can also bath ABS parts in acetone for a a minute or two, but It isn't necesseray for InMoov" This makes the layers stick together better as well (they will melt together). Be careful, the part might become "soggy" or melt to much.
